Armstrong Flooring Correcting Vinyl Composition Tile Installed Upside Down

These recommendations are for vinyl composition tile WITHOUT Diamond 10 Technology coating.

THESE RECOMMENDATIONS ARE TO BE GIVEN WHEN TILE HAS BEEN PARTIALLY OR TOTALLY INSTALLED UPSIDE DOWN.

  • Be sure to let the installation “cure” for a minimum of 5 days. A commercial maintenance contractor should be contacted because of the equipment required.
  • First, scrub the surface of the tile with a 3M green/blue pad or equal. You can use S-485 Armstrong Commercial Floor Cleaner or a similar product that has been diluted at 4 to 6 ounces per gallon. (If a polish has already been applied to the floor, substitute a properly diluted commercial floor stripper for the cleaner. DO NOT USE a no-scrub and/or no-rinse stripper.) It is important to scrub the floor until the cleaning/stripping solution turns the color of the floor.
  • Rinse thoroughly.
  • If floor does not seem uniformly smooth or if the desired smoothness has not been obtained, scrub with a 3M red pad or equal and S-485 Armstrong Commercial Floor Cleaner or a similar product that has been diluted at 2 to 4 ounces per gallon. It is important to scrub the floor until the cleaning solution turns the color of the floor.
  • Rinse twice.
  • Apply 2 coats of commercial floor sealer followed by 3 to 5 coats of S-480 Armstrong Commercial Floor Polish or a similar product.

The results will not be the same had the tile been installed correctly, but should be acceptable.
