Hardwood Trim & Molding Special Situations

Fireplace Hearth Option 1

Frame around the hearth with reducer strip. Install a wood shim of the appropriate height, and fasten the reducer to it. Leave the recommended expansion space between the wood floor and the shim.

Fireplace Hearth Option 2

Undercut the brick with a jamb saw using a carborundum tipped blade. Cut deep enough to leave the recommended expansion space.

Fireplace Hearth Option 3

Leave the recommended expansion space between the hardwood and the hearth. Scribe and cut cork to fill the space. Adhere the cork according to the cork manufacturer’s recommendations.

Sliding Door Track Options 1, 2, and 3

Option #1: Install a wood shim of the appropriate height, and fasten the reducer to it. Leave the recommended expansion space between the wood floor and the shim.

Options #2 & #3: Leave the recommended expansion space between the hardwood and the door track. Scribe and cut cork to fill the space. Adhere the cork according to the cork manufacturer’s recommendations.

Option #4 (not pictured): Install a threshold molding against the door track. Leave the recommended expansion space under the threshold.
