While some adhesives are freeze/thaw stable, it is still necessary to protect from excessively low temperatures and multiple freeze/thaw cycles.
Freeze/thaw stable products are designed to resist damage from freezing, but must still be treated with care. That’s why we recommend shipping in heated trucks and using heated storage. These adhesives can usually be thawed and still retain their performance characteristics if the temperature has not dropped below 10° F (-12° C). Below that temperature, they can be damaged too badly to be used.
Never apply heat directly to frozen products. Instead, thaw the adhesive at 72° F (22° C) for 12 to 24 hours. Visually inspect the adhesive and stir in the container. If no strings are evident, and the adhesive appears to be smooth and creamy, it can be used.
It is the handling characteristics of the adhesive which are affected by freezing and not the bonding characteristics. To assure proper handling and performance, adhesives should be stored at 65° F (18° C) or higher for at least 24 hours before using.
