Board Replacement Near A Wall

Tools Needed

  • Marker
  • Pull Bar
  • Knee Pads
  • Eye Protection

Preparation

  • Ensure eye protection and mask are donned properly before beginning work.
  • Remove any transition pieces

Removal of Damaged Plank

  1. Using a pull bar, carefully lift first row.
  2. Disengage from the long sides of the second row.
  3. Disengage surrounding planks by sliding them apart.
  4. Number the planks on the back for re-installation.
  5. Repeat this process on subsequent rows as needed.

Re-Installation

  1. Begin with the last row that was uninstalled.
  2. Slide planks together to lock.
  3. Use a rubber mallet to ensure locks are engaged. Tap along the interlocking point where the new plank butts against the adjacent planks.
  4. Finish the job by sweeping and cleaning the floor.

Board Replacement Away From Walls

Tools Needed

  • Pencil
  • Chisel
  • Utility Knife
  • Tapping Block
  • Latex Joint Adhesive
  • Knee Pads
  • Vacuum
  • Eye Protection
  • Dust Pan & Broom
  • Dust Mask
  • 3M 2080 Tape
  • Hammer
  • Tape Measure
  • Circular Saw

Preparation

  • This repair will create dust. Ensure eye protection and mask are donned properly before beginning work.

Removal of Damaged Plank

  1. Apply tape around the corners of board being replaced.
  2. Use a framing square, draw angled lines into the corners.
  3. Use any straight edge to draw line down center.
  4. Set circular saw to the thickness of the plank using a scrap piece.
  5. Cut along lines.
  6. Thoroughly clean the area of debris.
  7. Use a sharp chisel to finish the cuts into the corners of the plank. Lift out the long pieces first. Then lift the remaining triangle pieces.
  8. Remove tape. Clean the area of debris.

Preparation and Installation of Replacement Plank

  1. Use a sharp utility knife to remove the long tongue side.
  2. Save the short and long groove sides.
  3. Remove groove corners at 45 degree angles.
  4. Dry lay plank to ensure fit.
  5. Apply a small bead of latex adhesive to exposed grooves of existing installed plank.
  6. Apply a small bead of latex adhesive to exposed grooves of replacement plank.
  7. Slide the short end under the tongue of existing installed plank, then fit the long edge into place.
  8. Use a tapping block and soft rubber mallet to fit into place.
  9. Clean any adhesive with a damp rag or towel.
  10. Weight the plank for recommended cure time and restrict traffic.
  11. Finish the job by sweeping and cleaning the floor.
