Armstrong Flooring Correcting Scratch Whitening for VCT WITH Diamond 10® Technology

These procedures apply to Armstrong Flooring VCT WITH Diamond 10 Technology Coating. Follow this link for procedures for VCT WITHOUT Diamond 10 Technology Coating.

Causes and Solutions

Possible causes of scratch whitening:

  • dark floors enhance contrast between the floor and normal white scratches
  • dark floors used in high-traffic areas and not adequately maintained
  • too aggressive of a floor pad or brush (such as black)

To remove scratches from VCT with Diamond 10® Technology, use the following procedure:

  1. Remove polish by stripping the floor.  Apply standard stripping solution over entire area. Let it set for the recommended amount of time per the manufacture and then scrub with brush equal to 3MTM Blue Pad.  Vacuum up dirty solution.
  2. Rinse thoroughly and allow to dry.
  3. See next steps below under For Smaller Areas or For Larger Areas depending on the size of the area.

For Smaller Areas:

  1. Using a clean cloth rub mineral oil into the scratch/mark and allow to soak for 30-40 minutes.
  2. Carefully and gently apply heat using a heat gun or hair dryer.
  3. Wipe off excess mineral oil.
  4. Clean and neutralize area with a neutral pH cleaner to remove any slip hazard such as Armstrong S-485 Commercial Floor Cleaner.
