General Information
Please consult local building codes for the exact requirements for the adhering of luxury vinyl plank and tile to wall surfaces. Some localities will allow 3mm product on the wall if used only as wainscoting or a single non-flammable feature wall. If ASTM E-84 flame testing is required, then 2mm must be used. Parterre Avara LVT is Class A fire rated.
According to International Building Codes 803.5, Class C interior finish materials shall be permitted for most applications where the building has an operating sprinkler system. There are specific exclusions to this code. Please refer to the building codes for your exact structure type and availability for use of class C interior finish materials.
Per most building code, premium vinyl is an acceptable wall covering. However please be aware that local building codes take precedent and can supersede this international guideline. With this notion, Parterre takes no legal or financial responsibility should this product be deemed inadequate due to local building codes.
Installation
Materials shall be acclimated to the installation area for a minimum of 48 hours prior to commencing installation. The area to receive the product shall be fully enclosed, weather tight, with permanent HVAC system set and maintained at a minimum temperature of 65-85°F with humidity ranging between 40%-65% for a minimum of 48 hours prior to, during and after installation.
The substrate temperature must be at least 5°F higher than the dew point. In accordance with the recommendations from adhesive manufacturers, use drywall, green board or equivalent moisture resistant board, as long as it is only on vertical services, as a wall substrate.
Walls should be free of any seams, joints or visual imperfections, which may telegraph through the product. Always vacuum the wall’s surface and use a large, damp and open cell sponge to remove any fine dust. Allow to dry completely.
Determine the orientation of the product and lay out the installation so that cuts in the width of the product is no less than half of the plank and no end cuts shorter than 8” to assure a solid bond.
Parterre Lateral Roller-Applied Adhesive is the recommended adhesive for the installation of Parterre LVT for wall applications.
Use a 3/8” paint roller to apply the adhesive. Coverage must not exceed 400 square feet per gallon. All surfaces require two coats of Parterre Lateral Roller-Applied adhesive including latex primed, porous or slightly textured surfaces. Allow the first coat to dry completely to touch before applying the second coat. Once the second coat of roller-applied adhesive has dried, you may begin the placement of the plank or tile. Do not spread more adhesive than can be covered in four hours. It is always recommended to apply two coats of Parterre Lateral adhesive, as the first coat acts like a base coat.
Note: Do not use Parterre Lateral Roller-Applied adhesive on gypsum concrete.
For enhanced bond strength in extreme environments subject to heat or high humidity you may also apply one coat of the Parterre Lateral Roller-Applied adhesive to the back of the Parterre LVT in addition to the two coats applied to the wall. Both the second coat applied to the wall and coat on the backing of Parterre LVT must be dry to touch with no transfer to your hand before starting installation.
Once the LVT is installed on the wall, roll with an adjustable hand or “laminate” roller to promote and ensure adhesive transfer and maximize adhesion.
In high humidity locations, additional tack time may be necessary for proper adhesion. Make sure the adhesive is dry to touch before starting the installation.
Always install a wooden baseboard, vinyl or rubber cove base on the Parterre LVT after the product has been installed on the wall. Most importantly, all outside corners should be protected with wooden corner molding, molded corner guards or any system that overlaps the product at the outside corner. Lastly, cut your inside corners to net and caulk with a clear silicone at the corner to seal.
