Troubleshooting & Repairs

1. REPLACEMENT OF PARQUET FILLET
   1. Drill a number of holes in fillet with a 5/8″ or smaller drill bit.  Do not damage adjacent fillets.
   2. Chisel the fillet in half across the grain, then chisel lengthwise and remove all pieces.
   3. Scrape excess glue from subfloor.
   4. Take replacement fillet and remove the bottom part of the groove side (if any) and all tongues except one end tongue.
   5. Spread Bruce Adhesive on the back of the fillet.  Let adhesive flash dry.  Insert fillet tongue into groove and pivot fillet down into position.
   6. Clean repaired area.  Wax and buff area if Dura-Satin product.
2. REPLACEMENT OF BUTT EDGE PARQUET TILE
   1. Adjust circular saw to the thickness of tile.  Cut 2 or more parallel cuts across the tile.  Do not damage adjacent tiles.
   2. Chisel out the area between the cuts, then remove the rest of the tile.
   3. Scrape excess glue from subfloor.
   4. Spread Bruce Adhesive on the back of the replacement tile with the recommended Bruce trowel.  Let the adhesive flash dry.
   5. Press repair tile into place.
   6. Repair areas may be weighted until dry.  Clean repaired area.  Wax and buff area if Dura-Satin product.
3. REPLACEMENT OF TONGUE AND GROOVE PARQUET TILE
   1. Follow steps #1, 2 and 3 from the “Replacement of Butt Edge Parquet Tile” instructions.
   2. Cut or chisel off the bottom part of all groove sides.  Leave one tongue side; cut off all other tongues.
   3. Spread Bruce Adhesive on the back of the replacement tile with the recommended Bruce trowel.  Let the adhesive flash dry.
   4. Insert tongue of repair tile into groove; pivot into position and press into place.
   5. Repair areas may be weighted until dry.  Clean repaired area.  Wax and buff area if Dura-Satin product.
4. REPLACEMENT OF TONGUE AND GROOVE NAIL-DOWN PLANK
   1. Adjust circular saw to the thickness of the plank.  Cut 2 or more parallel cuts the length of the plank.  Do not damage adjacent planks.
   2. Cut or chisel across the width of the plank, then chisel out the center.  Groove side of cut plank will slide off adjacent tongue to center.  Chisel in half and remove.
   3. Angle chisel toward center and carefully chisel tongue side of cut plank to expose nails.  Remove nails; chisel in half and remove.
   4. Select a straight board longer than the repair area.
   5. Cut off the tongue end of this board to fit the opening.  Bevel the cut end and repair if it is a bevel-edge product.
   6. Cut off the bottom part of the grooves on the end and side.
   7. Repair board may be secured with Bruce Adhesive and/or screwed from below or face nailed.  Insert tongue of repair board into groove and pivot into position.
   8. Stain and finish bevel end if necessary.  Clean repaired area.  Wax and buff area if Dura-Satin product.
5. REPLACEMENT OF TONGUE AND GROOVE NAIL-DOWN PEGGED PLANK
   1. Follow steps #1 through #7 from the “Replacement of Tongue and Groove Nail-Down Plank” instructions.
   2. Split scrap end of new board and retrieve peg.  Select drill bit of the same diameter as peg and mark with tape so drilled hole will be the same length as the peg.
   3. Measure and mark position of new peg on replacement board and drill hole.  Apply carpenter’s glue to the peg and carefully tap in place.
   4. Stain and finish bevel-end if necessary.  Clean repair area.  Wax and buff area if Dura-Satin product.
6. REPLACEMENT OF GLUE DOWN TONGUE AND GROOVE PLANK
   1. Follow steps #1 through #6 from the “Replacement of Tongue and Groove Nail-Down Plank” instructions.
   2. Spread Bruce Adhesive on the back of the replacement board or on the subfloor with the recommended Bruce trowel.  Let the adhesive flash dry.
   3. Insert tongue of repair board into groove and pivot into position.  Repair areas can be weighted until dry.
   4. Follow steps #2 and #3 from the “Replacement of Tongue and Groove Nail-Down Pegged Plank” instructions.
   5. Stain and finish bevel-end if necessary.  Clean repaired area.  Wax and buff area if Dura-Satin product.
