Estimating for Mixed Board Width Installations

Ordering Guide for Mixed Width Installation:

Step 1: Individual product width / Sum of product widths  = % of individual product to use

Step 2: (Total Square Footage to be installed plus 5% =Total # of square feet needed for waste factor) x (% of individual product to use) individual product width

* repeat steps 1 & 2 for each individual product width to be installed

Example: For a 400 square foot** installation of 3″, 5″, and 7″:
** 5% waste factor should be included in this figure

3″
Step 1: 3 divided by 3+5+7 (or 15) = 20% or .20
Step 2: 420 x .20 = 84 Sq. Feet

5″
Step 1: 5 divided by 3+5+7 (or 15) = 33% or .33
Step 2: Step 2: 420 x .33 = 138.6 Sq. Feet

7″
Step 1: 7 divided by 3+5+7 (or 15) = 47% or .47
Step 2: 420 x .47 = 197.4 Sq. Feet

Therefore: 84 + 139 + 197 = 420 total square feet

Example: For a 400 square foot** Installation of 2 1/4″, 3 1/4″, 4 1/4″
**5% waste factor should be included in this figure.

2 1/4″
Step 1: 2.25 divided by 2.25+3.25+4.25 (or 9.75 = 23%
Step 2: 420 x .23 = 96.6 Sq.Feet

3 1/4″
Step 1: 3.25 divided by 2.25+3.25+4.25 (or 9.75) = 33%
Step 2: 420 x .33 = 138.6 Sq. Feet

4 1/4″
Step 1: 4.25 divided by 2.25+3.25+4.25 (or 9.75) = 44%
Step 2: 420 x .44 = 184.8 Sq. Feet

Therefore: 97 + 139 + 185 = 421 total square feet
